Wine:
Aged for nearly four years in the cellar, Collection 243 is an expansive cuvée, defined by the 2018 vintage's structure, complemented by the freshness and complexity of the reserve wines. This champagne is dense and deep, with a rich, structured body, anchored by the fleshy character of Pinot Noir and harmoniously balanced with Chardonnay's limestone crispness. The Collection's warm and inviting style is pronounced, perfectly encapsulating the maturity of the 2018 harvest with notes of warm, sweet citrus and luscious yellow fruits. The woody texture of the reserve wines aged in large casks further enhances and elongates the palate, providing both finesse and lasting saline undertones. This champagne is ready to enjoy now but can also benefit from additional aging. In a Magnum format, it offers the ultimate in both sociability and aging potential.Vinification:
Hand harvested from August 27 to September 8, 2018, from 1/3 of the 'La Rivière' vineyard, 1/3 of the 'La Montagne' vineyard and 1/3 of the 'La Côte' vineyard and grapes from selected 'Cœur de Terroir' plots from partner winemakers.243rd Blend: 31% perpetual reserve (2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016,2017), 10% reserve wines aged in wood (2009, 2011, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017), 59% 2018 harvest. A benchmark of Champagne excellence, Louis Roederer embodies the height of refinement in Champagne craftsmanship. Still family-owned and managed by a direct descendant of its founders, it is one of the few remaining independent houses.
Louis Roederer has long focused on sustainable viticulture, adopting organic farming and gentle practices early on to preserve vineyard heritage and promote genetic diversity. More than half of its 250 hectares are now certified organic, with additional methods inspired by permaculture.
This uncompromising commitment to quality and flavor through innovative practices is explored in-depth in the latest issue of our Racines magazine, which dedicates a feature to this exceptional Champagne house.
