Our committee's review
At the pinnacle of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, with an impressive 3-star rating from RVF, Domaine de Marcoux is a must-know estate in the southern Rhône Valley.
Using biodynamic practices, their wines have a rare, natural depth and energy, delivering power without relying on heavy oak. These are classic wines, driven by beautifully ripe Grenache, that age superbly and consistently lead the way in quality.
In the neighboring Lirac appellation, they bring the same commitment and skill, with results that are just as impressive—Olivier Poussier even considers their wines the best in the region.
The proof is in this 2022 vintage, a Selection Committee favorite: a little Châteauneuf in the making.
The 2022 Red Lirac La Lorentine is rich and velvety, showcasing beautifully ripe notes of dark fruit, bay leaf, wild herbs, and that distinct eucalyptus touch from Mourvèdre—truly raising the bar for its appellation. As Olivier Poussier says, “The best estates in Lirac are always those from Châteauneuf,” and this wine exemplifies that perfectly. It has a juicy character, vibrant fruit flavors, a full, structured body, and smooth tannins that make it irresistible. This is a wine with depth and ripeness, yet it stays fresh and perfectly balanced, with a cellaring potential of 7 to 8 years. A favorite of the Selection Committee, it’s rated 92/100 by the Best Sommelier in the World.
The finest Lirac of the appellation, a favorite of the Best Sommelier in the World.
