Pure Sangiovese, the 2017 red Brunello di Montalcino Pian Delle Vigne offers a ruby-red drape and some ochre highlights on the edges of the disk. The nose is perfumed with notes of ripe black fruit, violets, cocoa powder, pure scents of cherries in brandy, spices, oregano and marjoram. The palate is full of elegance and consistency, with deep, harmonious juice, supple, silky tannins and a fresh acidity. This wine has the stature to age well, and can be kept for another decade, or enjoyed with a fine rib steak or truffle tagliatelle. Rated 93+/100 by our committee.Vinification:
